The Long Wait November 28, 2006 8:00 PM
Our six months without Daddy has almost come to the end. Saturday is our big day. The girls have been counting down the days on the calendar. We have been able to e-mail back and forth several times a day during this last month. Thom has even been able to call quite frequently after he arrived at his final destination. This has certainly been a long road for all of us. But we all know that aside from family, this country and the Navy are his what he loves most.
The girls and I have been staying busy with school and T-ball lately. Juliana still loves every moment of school. She has really developed since school started. She is meeting all of the goals that her teacher has set for her. Our biggest obstacle to overcome has and for a long time will be communication. She has learned many new signs this year, but still is not able to express herself as well as a child who can speak. If anyone is interested in learning sign language we have some of the most fantastic DVD’s. They are called Signing Time. They can be found at signingtime.com. This is where we have all learned most of our signs so far. I also use the website aslpro.com to quickly look up new words. Kendra and I are trying to learn several new words per week and incorporate them into our life.
December is going to be fun filled for us. Besides Daddy coming home our older two kids will be coming from Maine for Christmas. Gregory and Kaitlyn are Kendra and Juliana’s older brother and sister. They are 17 and 15 years old and awesome kids. If I could have hand picked my step-kids they would certainly be the two that I would have chosen.
We are going to be heading back to Miami some time in January. At this point there is no surgery planned. We just need to go for an office visit and an evaluation so that Dr. Wolfe can begin planning for the next step. We don’t have any idea what that may be. We just have to wait to see him.
Stay tuned for new pictures and more frequent updates. I am going to take the time to do them more often now since Daddy will be home to entertain the busy little monkeys. —Tami
